Ski tour “Great War”

News, Winter Activities

The itinerary travels along the Dolomite frontline and circles around the Col di Lana, the hill of blood, a symbol of the Great War. Along the way we encounter emplacements, tunnels and loopholes built by Italian, Austro-Hungarian and German soldiers during World War I in the Dolomites, 1915-1917. Bloody battles were fought here between the Austrian and German Kaiserjäger on one side and the Italian Alpini on the other.

The route runs at the foot of some of the most famous peaks in the Dolomites such as Lagazuoi, Conturines, Settsass, Sassongher, Sella, Civetta, Pelmo, Nuvolau and Averau, Cinque Torri, Tofane and the Marmolada Glacier.

The slopes are suitable for skiers of different levels, particularly spectacular are the descent from Lagazuoi to Armentarola and the longest slope in the Dolomites that from the Cima della Marmolada, Punta Rocca down the slopes of the Marmolada reaches Malga Ciapela.
